Operational Authorization & Guidance

Embark on a smoother aviation journey with HD&A, where we specialize in facilitating the acquisition of operational authorization for Enhanced Vision Systems with Heads-Up Display (EFS HUD). These systems can be used to descend below DH or MDA on certain straight-in approaches. Following the directives of ICAO Annex 6 Part 2 and FAA, we provide comprehensive guidance and support for obtaining the necessary Letter of Authorization (LOA). Keep in mind that the FAA uses the term Enhance Flight Vision Systems (EFVS).
Find out how we can help you obtain EFVS operational authorization and guidance from the FAA.

Benefits of EFVS Installation

At HD&A, we know the benefits this technology offers to your flight crew during approaches. Factory-installed or aftermarket systems provide enhanced situational awareness, elevating your operations to new levels. Furthermore, under specified conditions, there is a potential for operational credit, allowing for lower descent minimums on qualified approaches.

Know the Key Elements

Before claiming operational credit or submitting an application for an LOA, operators should review the Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM) and Supplements to ensure compliance. The key elements to review include:

FAA Advisory Circular 90-106A for guidance and compliance with LOA requirements.

Authorization by the State of Registry as required by ICAO for International Operators.

ICAO Annex 6 Part II Section 2 Chapter 2.2 regulations.

No LOA is required in US Airspace up to 100 feet, but an LOA is needed for touchdown and rollout.

EFVS operations to touchdown and rollout, according to 14 CFR 91.176(a).

EFVS operations up to 100 feet above the Touchdown Zone Elevation (TDZE), as outlined in 14 CFR 91.176(b).

Pilot training requirements specified in 14 CFR 61.66(b)(1).

LOA applications processed by FAA inspectors using FSIMS 8900.1 Volume 4, Chapter 17, Section 1
